Students are GHS are put into one of four houses. Through participating at all carnivals and other sporting events students earn points for their house. There is a healthy rivalry between the houses and the points for champion house at the end of each year is always quite close. Our four houses are:

CHAPPELL is named after Ian Chappell.

FRASER is named after Dawn Fraser.

McKAY is named after Heather McKay.

NEWCOMBE is named after John Newcombe.



GHS conducts three major carnivals during the year. The dates for the carnivals in 2015 are:


Swimming Carnival

When: Monday 9th February 2015

Where: Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre, Auburn

Cross Country Carnival

When: Thursday 19th March 2015

Where: Nurragingy Reserve, Doonside

Athletics Carnival

When: Wednesday 6th May 2015

Where: Blacktown International Sports Park

Weekly Sport Program

The exciting new sports program that was introduced in 2014 is here to stay!!! This program was designed so that all students are able to experience a variety of different sports and never do the same sport twice. In order to do this, students will paricipate in a paid sport for five weeks in Terms 1 and 3. For the other five weeks each term they will be using a local or school venue. In Terms 2 and 4 the Inter-House Sport Competition will run.


Knockout Teams 2015

GHS has been entered in a number of Sydney West Knockout competitions for 2015. A list of these teams is below.

Registration and trials for these teams will commence early in Term 1 and students should be listening for more information during assembly and the morning announcements in roll call.

      Girraween High School APP

      Our school has a smartphone mobile APP available on both Apple and Android networks. Major events will be published on the APP and messages may be sent out as reminders. The APP also provides the ability to write absent notes and to notify the school of any changes to contact details. Other functions available include access to the newsletters, bell times, canteen price list, enrolment information, excursion and activity notes, uniform shop and Parents and Citizens information.

      Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

      Girraween High School has adopted the "Bring Your Own Device" model to ensure that all students have access to technology. As of the beginning of 2015 it is compulsary that all students have a device to use for educational purposes. Please find below links to three documents which will help you and guide your through this process. The first document, "BYOD Checklist", is the most important document you need when purchasing your device. Please ensure you bring this with you to the store and that the device you are purchasing meets these requirements. The next document, "BYOD Student Responsibilities Document", lists the guidelines for use in an educational environment. Please ensure that you understand and agree to these responsibilities. The third document, "BYOD Student Agreement", needs to be filled in and signed by both parents and student. Once completed it must be returned to Mr. Bylsma.

      The Department of Education and Communities (DEC) supplies all students with free software to use on their personal computer. All students need is their DEC username and password and they can download Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, Microsoft Office 2013, Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 and many Adobe products including Adobe Creative Suite 6.       How to Connect to the DEC Wireless Network:

      All DEC schools have a wireless network available to students. Once you have your device you need to connect to the DEC wireless in order to connect to the internet. Please choose one of the following documents or videos for instructions on how to connect your device to the network.
