How Mathematics will be Assessed in 2009
YEAR 7
Each class will have 4 major tests each year. All are common.
- The half yearly report will be the average of tests 1 and 2.
- The yearly report will be the average of tests 3 and 4.
YEAR 8 and YEAR 9
Each class will have 4 major tests each year. All are common.

The average of tests 1 and 2. 90% The average of mental arithmetic tests 1 and 2. 10% - The yearly report will be:
The average of tests 3 and 4. 90% The average of mental arithmetic tests 3 and 4. 10%
Year 9 students will do the Stage 5.3 course.
YEAR 10
Each class will have 4 major tests during the year. All are common.
Year 10 students will study the Advanced course.

Test 1 15% Test 2 15% Test 3 20% Yearly 35% Average of the 4 mental arithmetic tests 15%
Grades will be based on the students achievement as measured against the performance descriptors. Grades will be allocated by the school.
A separate School Certificate Award will be given to students based on their results of the common state test given in November. The results will be given to students by the DET.
YEAR 11
There are 2 courses in year 11.
Mathematics Extension 11G, 11R, 11W, 11N, 11H Mathematics 11S and 11L
The Mathematics Extension students will sit for all Mathematics tasks.
The Mathematics students will have 5 tasks during the year. Task 5 is the yearly examination.
The Mathematics Extension 1 students will have 4 tasks during the year. Task 4 is the yearly examination.
The report mark will be :
- Mathematics Extension Half yearly: Task 1 Half
Yearly (100%)
Mathematics Half yearly: Task 1 (30%) Task 2 Half Yearly (70%) - Mathematics Extension Yearly: Task 1 Half Yearly (20%)
Task 2 (20%), Task 3 (20%) Task 4 Yearly (40%)
Mathematics Yearly: Task 1 (10%) Task 2 Half Yearly (20%) Task 3 (15%) Task 4 (15%) Task 5 Yearly (40%)
The Mathematics Extension marks will be scaled for all reports
There will be one HSC assessment tasks in year 11 for all courses.
YEAR 12
Each class will have 4 major tests during the year.
There are 4 courses in
year 12.
Mathematics Extension 2 12G, 12R Mathematics Extension 1 12W, 12N Mathematics
12H, 12S, Mathematics General 12 GEN
The Mathematics Extension 2 students will sit for all Mathematics Extension 1 tasks. They will also sit for the first 2 Mathematics tasks.
The Mathematics Extension 1 students will sit for all Mathematics tasks.
The report marks will be:
- Half yearly Half Yearly examination mark. Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics Extension 2 marks will be scaled.
- Yearly Trial HSC examination mark. Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics Extension 2 marks will be scaled.
